Tsubaki evolved as a collaboration between pianist/composer Courtney Swain, violinist/composer Abby Swidler, and me. The project also included a company of Japanese dancers and the incredible film maker Riki Nitabaru. The objective was to produce a 20-minute video of music and improvised dance. In 2021, we released the film titled “Ripe” as well as a corresponding EP of the six compositions Courtney, Abby and I created.
